Dr Patricia Berwick PHD, MA, BA, Dip.T., TC. Life Member Phi Kappa Phi.
Early Life
Patricia Berwick was born in Dunedin, New Zealand and raised in Christchurch, New Zealand. Brought up with the belief she would travel to see her relatives far over the seas, she left home to travel widely throughout the Pacific, China, South-East Asia, Tamil Nadu – India, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Middle East, North Africa, Europe, United Kingdom and the USA. Patricia met her relatives and many other fascinating people. Thus she spent more than 20 years of her adult life outside New Zealand. This background forms much of the foundation of her novels.
Studies
Patricia Berwick considers herself lucky to be educated in both New Zealand and the United States where she studied during the exciting, but difficult times, of the 1960s and 70s. She studied Anthropology, Chinese and Education under world-famous professors. These experiences helped to form her worldview and provided a strong foundation for her work life. She loves research and travel. As a result, these travels have led to writing historical fiction and non-fiction texts as well as adventure-mystery novels.
Patricia,
I attended your informative lecture the other day at the Marlborough Museum.
I am currently working on the family saga of the Reynolds/ Macandrew family – at least the generation that migrated to NZ. Your book ‘Unauthorized Power’ helped me add a little to the tale of their political lives. I had already covered James Macandrew’s interactions with the Parihaka events but your insights added some more to it.
All the best
